Arts

The importance of arts lies in its ability to foster creativity, cultural expression, and community engagement, enriching the lives of individuals and the collective spirit of society.

Arts & Exhibition

SGF is dedicated to conducting and promoting arts and exhibitions, fostering a vibrant cultural environment. From showcasing traditional paintings to embracing contemporary art forms like cosplay, the foundation aims to celebrate and support artistic expression in all its diversity. Through its events and initiatives, Sulu Garden Foundation provides a platform for artists to display their work and engage with the community, enriching the cultural landscape for all.

Painting Exhibition

The Inauguration of the Artists Residency Studio & Painting Exhibition was a remarkable event that celebrated the creativity and talent of our Artist in Residence. The exhibition showcased a diverse collection of oil paintings, ranging from classical to modern styles, highlighting the evolution and breadth of artistic expression.

From the Mountains to the Sea: Landscape Photographs of Miag-ao

Miag-ao (Iloilo) is known as a university town because of UP Visayas campus and a UNESCO town because of Miag-ao Fortress Church as a World Heritage Site. But, there are a lot more about Miag-ao than these two institutions.

Cosplay Weekends

We, at Sulu Garden, consider Cosplay an art form, a ‘performance art’ to be more precise. It is an art form that expresses a personal form of view, an alternative vision of one’s self, that is especially open for all to see. For this reason, we celebrate Cosplay as part of the artistic expression that fits the unique ambiance of Sulu Garden.

Diorama of the Battle of Mactan

The Diorama of the Battle of Mactan is a project to illustrate the real events of the battle in the educational format of what happened between the forces of Magellan and Lapu-Lapu on April 27, 1521. In celebration of its 500th anniversary, this artwork is considered the country’s biggest diorama that will portray the “Battle of Mactan."

Poetry

Poetry has a special part in the literary collection and publication of Sulu Garden Foundation because, we believe that poetry has powerful energy excavated from the deepest emotions of the poets. It has the ability to influence society, widens our perspectives, and a great way to turn deep thoughts into passionate lines. Thus, we are elated to share some poems contributed by our friends.

Our Poems

Poetry and poets capture the essence of human emotions and experiences, offering profound insights and reflections through the power of words. By exploring language and expression, they enrich our understanding of the world and foster empathy and inspiration.

Music

Music was so important in the culture of the natives of the diverse islands that eventually became the Republic of the Philippines we know today. However, there are no records about what music was like in the Visayan Islands 500 years ago. We can make educated guesses based on musical instruments we know were used long before Magellan arrived.

Music from Five Centuries Ago

To complement the diorama, Sulu Garden Foundation had searched for a composer to create the sounds of 500 years ago. While the musical re-construction is daunting, we are pleased that Peter Jan Melchor B. ”Armor” Rapista has accepted this unique challenge. To balance the musical-historical accounts, the Foundation plans also to recreate the music of the Spanish during the 16th century.
