As part of the Sulu Garden Foundation (SGF) initiative to conserve and restore the Sapa Creek to its former form, SGF along with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO-Guimbal) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO-Miag-ao) conducted the second mapping and ground-truthing of the creek last August 19, 2022, for the rainy season.

Last August 11, 2022, Norielle Diamante, the Senior Science Officer of Sulu Garden Foundation (SGF), visited the Mari-it Wildlife and Conservation Park at West Visayas State University – College of Forestry (WVSU-CAF) in Lambunao, Iloilo to check on site the threatened wildlife within the center.
The center is a forested area with cages to contain captive wildlife for breeding. Currently, there are seven (7) species of endangered wildlife present within the center.

SGF has sponsored Robin Haywood and his wife Laura Reaney (both originally from Nevada, USA) since 2021 under the Philippine 9G visa program to help coordinate the Community Outreach Program of the Foundation. Robin and Laura have been working with Medical Mission Matters, Inc. and Smile Train to help with childhood deformities. Both Laura and Robin travel throughout the villages of Panay Island in 2014 to identify children with cleft palate deformities from very poor families who can avail of free medical care during one of the medical missions. In Asia, 1 in every 500 births has cleft deformities.

Last Sunday, July 24, 2022, the Sulu Garden Foundation (SGF) hosted and sponsored a Chess Simultaneous Exhibition at Sulu Garden, Miag-ao. The original plan was to have 20 slots available for chess players of all ages to compete against National Master (NM) Fritz Bryan P. Porras of the Iloilo Kisela Knights (IKK) Team. However, since there were a lot of players who wants to register, the slot was adjusted to 25.

The undersea world is always a source of fascination and dread. There are legends of the old and also unrecorded local knowledge. Many years ago, there were many discussions about the sea with then Miag-ao Vice Mayor Joerey Noble and Jonathan R. Matias about underwater seamounts beyond the shores. Thus, began our curiosity about what may be found under the sea.

Wetlands International coordinates the Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) to run parallel with other international census of waterbirds in Africa, Europe and Neotropics under the umbrella of the International Waterbird Census (IWC). It is an annual event and takes place once a year, during the second and third weeks of January. The census was initiated in 1987 in the Indian subcontinent, and has grown rapidly to cover twenty-six (26) countries of South Asia, East Asia, South East Asia, Pacific, as well as Russia Far East.

One of the most remarkable events in Philippine history is the victory of Filipino hero Lapu-Lapu’s forces over Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. It’s known as the ‘Battle of Mactan’ which happened on April 27, 1521. This year marks 500 years since that historic feat.

The province of Iloilo is recreating the Battle of Mactan through a massive diorama project in line with the 500th anniversary of the historical event next year.

The Sulu Garden Foundation based in Miag-ao, Iloilo, began work on a diorama of the Battle of Mactan in July 2020. They intend to complete the 50-square-meter diorama depicting the true events that transpired on April 27, 1521.
