Sulu Garden Foundation Secures NHCP Accreditation as Official Member-Affiliate at 13th LHCN General Assembly

Sulu Garden Foundation, Inc. (SGF) was formally recognized as a fully accredited member-affiliate of the Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) during the network’s 13th General Assembly in Biñan, Laguna. The accreditation, issued by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), acknowledges SGF’s ongoing commitment to local history and heritage preservation in Western Visayas.

Mr. Salvador ‘Jun’ Acsay, Jr., SGF Advisor for Heritage & History, represented the foundation at the assembly, which serves as a vital venue for local historical committees across the country to connect, exchange research methodologies, and discuss challenges in Philippine heritage preservation.
During the assembly, Mr. Acsay highlighted SGF’s community-based heritage work, specifically clarifying to other historians that the foundation focuses on preserving the local history of Miagao, Iloilo, rather than being located in Sulu, Mindanao. He noted that the gathering provided a valuable opportunity to build relationships with peer organizations nationwide.
The conference sessions directly aligned with SGF’s ongoing historical research. A presentation by a guest speaker from Indonesia regarding historical Moro attacks in the Philippines validated the relevance of SGF’s current projects. SGF serves as a custodian of local history through its museum dioramas—which several attendees expressed interest in visiting—as well as the “Historic Miagao @ Sulu Garden” initiative and continuing archaeological research.

Being a member of the LHCN provides SGF with formal authority and potential government recognition for its local history and cultural heritage initiatives. The accreditation officially integrates SGF into the national historical framework, ensuring priority recognition in NHCP programs and activities facilitated through the LHCN.
Looking ahead, SGF will participate in the LHCN Visayas Cluster’s upcoming activities, which will focus on women under the theme “MAMAMU: MAtapang, MAgaling, MUkha ng Bayan.” These initiatives will be conducted in collaboration with other local historical committees from Sta. Barbara, Dueñas, Alimodian, Cebu, San Joaquin, and Negros. The LHCN also announced that the 14th General Assembly will be held in Dapitan City next year.
