Sulu Garden Foundation, in partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of the Philippines, hosted a high-level discussion on December 2, 2025 to explore technology-driven approaches to land restoration for the Re-Greening of Panay initiative. The meeting brought together government agencies, academic institutions, military partners, and civil society to examine how drones, AI, and hybrid restoration methods can accelerate large-scale reforestation across the island.

The Philippines and Ukraine are negotiating a defense pact focused on joint drone production and technology sharing to enhance maritime security.

The session opened with an overview of Panay’s restoration potential and the role of emerging tools in improving planning, monitoring, and verification. Participants focused on practical applications of drone technology for mapping, seed delivery, and automated monitoring, and discussed how these tools can be integrated with community-led restoration and nature-based finance mechanisms to ensure long-term sustainability.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture VI and the Department of Science and Technology VI joined Dr. Carmelo del Castillo, For. Isidro Mosura Jr., and partners from the Philippine Army.

The diverse attendance underscored a shared commitment to multi-sector coordination and capacity building, with particular emphasis on pilot testing, technical partnerships, and seed research to improve survivability and ecological outcomes. The discussion identified opportunities to formalize collaborations and explore funding pathways that link measurable restoration results to nature-based finance.

Sulu Garden Foundation expressed gratitude to Her Excellency Yuliia Fediv and all participants for their insights and support. The foundation will move forward by translating the forum’s recommendations into pilot field tests, expanded technical partnerships, and community-focused capacity-building activities across Panay. Supporters and partners are invited to follow the Re-Greening of Panay progress and participate in upcoming pilot activities.
